Platinum Wheels have a full wheel & tyre fitting service..
Platinum Wheels have the industry standard tyre equipment, Corgi are Italian made machines are are built to last. Because of these machines and the care and attention to detail of our highly experienced technicians, many of our customers now only use us when they need new tyres fitted and balanced. Our technicians are all trained to fit the very expensive 2 and 3 piece race wheels that are commonly found on race cars and high end builds.
Wheel Balancing: Correct wheel balance on your car is very important. Unbalanced wheels can cause your tyres to wear prematurely, as well as causing accelerated wear of your shock absorbers, struts and steering components. All this can seriously affect your car’s overall performance, comfort and driveability. We only use the best quality steel weights (environmentally friendly) and take the time to make sure every wheel is perfect before it goes back onto your car!
Rotating your tyres regularly will increase the lifespan, tyres wear faster on the front of your car so by swapping them with the rear ones every 10,000ks you will make the set last a lot longer. Wheel alignment should be completed every 6 months or 10,0000ks for maximum life.
You need to keep your tyre full of air and at the right pressure to allow them to work properly, generally we recommend the following pressures:
80 Series Profile <50PSI
60-70 Profile 34-36 PSI
50-60 Profile 36-38 PSI
40-50 Profile 38-40 PSI
<40 Profile 40-44 PSI
Tyres have a wear indicator bar across the middle of the tread groves. The WOF standard in New Zealand states that you must have 1.5mm of tread above those wear bars, however often tyres will loose some of their performance before you reach this point. It is important that you visually check your tyres at least once a month, be sure to check on the insides of the tyre as often there can be wear that cannot be seen as easily.Be sure to check for any obvious signs of wear, cracks in the sidewall, punctures, under inflation or other irregular wear.
Tyre Puncture Repair:
Got a flat tyre..? If you have run over a nail and have not driven on the tyre flat often it can be repaired. You will need to bring it to us as soon as possible, remove it from the car and put your spare on first!! We will extract the puncture and use a special plug to seal the hole and have you back on the road as soon as possible!
